In Grandes Vinos, we are thrilled to announce a very special collaboration with the Fundación Pueblo Viejo de Belchite that brings together two of our land’s greatest passions: wine and historical heritage. In the midst of the year 2025, with Cariñena recognized as the European Wine City and Zaragoza turned into the Garnacha World Capital, we believe this synergy offers a unique tourist proposition that embodies the spirit of Aragón.
Wine and heritage: a unique experience in Belchite
The signing of this agreement paves the way for “Catando historias”, a series of guided tours through different emblematic spots in Belchite that will conclude with a tasting of our wines. Our aim is for visitors to savor the history of this municipality—its legends and its architecture—while enjoying a tasting designed to make each sip a journey back in time.
As part of this initiative, we are also introducing the new exclusive Garnacha: Monasterio de las Viñas GARNACHA HISTÓRICA, labeled with the famous jota by Natalio Baquero, a true symbol of the Pueblo Viejo de Belchite. For us, it is a tribute to the ties that bind Aragonese tradition, popular music, and oenology, recalling those folk verses that still resonate today as an essential part of our identity.
Historic Garnacha: a tribute to the jota of Belchite
On the door of the ruined church of San Martín de Tours, you can read the following verse:
“Pueblo Viejo de Belchite,
ya no te rondan zagales,
ya no se oirán las jotas
que cantaban nuestros padres”.
For us, featuring this jota on the label of our Monasterio de las Viñas GARNACHA HISTÓRICA is more than just an aesthetic choice: it is a tribute to the memory of the town and a nod to those who, through their art and commitment, have helped shape Aragonese culture over the centuries. We feel that each bottle contains the strength of the terroir, the living history of Belchite, and our passion for wine.
Catando historias: guided tours with a very special finale
The dates and details of the “Catando historias” series will be published very soon on the Ayuntamiento de Belchite website. We plan to surprise you with different tasting formats at each event:
- Blind tastings: let your senses guide you, free from preconceptions.
- Music-infused tastings: creating a unique atmosphere that connects the melody of the jota with the taste of wine.
- Premium wine tastings: where you can discover exclusive references from our portfolio.
During the tour, you will visit historic sites in Belchite such as the icehouse (nevero) of the Old Seminary or the church of San Martín de Tours in the Pueblo Viejo, with explanations of their architectural and cultural value. For us, it is essential that visitors understand that heritage is not just ruins, but a living legacy that grows richer when experienced through the senses.
A collaboration that strengthens tourism in Aragón
This agreement with the Fundación Pueblo Viejo de Belchite is another step in our commitment to promoting rural and wine tourism in Aragón. We know that the Pueblo Viejo de Belchite receives thousands of visitors each year, drawn by its history, and we believe that adding our wine experience—especially at such a significant time for the region—multiplies the possibilities for an unforgettable visit.
In addition, Grandes Vinos has always been an ambassador of the D.O.P. Cariñena and the values it represents: tradition, sustainability, and innovation. Sharing this philosophy with tourists who visit Belchite—one of the most important heritage sites in the province—enhances the value of both offerings and creates a truly enriching itinerary.
Belchite, a city alive in history
The Fundación Pueblo Viejo is responsible for the preservation and promotion of Belchite’s legacy. By partnering with us, we aim to take another step in cultural outreach, demonstrating that history can be experienced in a dynamic, approachable, and flavorful way—combining historical narration with the uniqueness of our region’s cuisine and wines.
A historic year: Garnacha World Capital and European Wine City
The designation of Zaragoza as the Garnacha World Capital and the choice of Cariñena as the European Wine City provide the perfect backdrop for this union of heritage and wine identity. We want 2025 to be remembered as the year Aragón showcased the best of its past alongside an innovative vision of the present and future.
Let us raise a toast to an Aragón that moves us with every sip and every stone that speaks to us of the past!
